Since March 2025 a new framework agreement between the University of Cyprus and the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth has been in force. Under it the University of Cyprus holds academic oversight and full responsibility for organising and running its own Greek certification exams. The certificates cover six levels, A1–C2, and are recognised for registration in the Republic of Cyprus and for naturalisation under the applicable provisions.

The pattern is visible: registration opens roughly two months before the sitting and stays open about a month. The January window opened on 7 November at 09:00 and closed on 7 December at 23:59 Cyprus time; the September one opened on 1 July at 09:00 and closed on 31 July at 23:59.

Places are limited, and that is not boilerplate
Both windows close for one of two reasons: the deadline arrives, or the places run out. The announcements say so plainly — registration is open until the stated date “or until available places are filled”.
An application only becomes valid once the fee has been paid successfully through JCC. A completed but unpaid form holds nothing. The fee is €90 or €100, depending on level.
Which leaves one rule worth remembering: apply in the first days of the window, not the last.
